Kinder lane’s Cook and nutrition
At Kinder Lane we pride ourselves on creating yummy and nutritious meals to support learning and the growth for your children. Our fantastic in house cook Helana holds a certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and also certifications in Cooking and Nutrition.
Being of an Egyptian background, cooking food is like a second nature to Helana, and especially making food for her loved ones is always something that brings happiness and satisfaction to her heart.
Proudly being the cook at Kinder Lane, and a mother of two girls, Helana takes her role in caring for your children’s health very seriously, by preparing and serving attractive, nutritionally balanced meals and ensuring that our menu complies with the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
‘The best moments of my day, are those when I see the joy and excitement of the children when they see me walking in to serve their meals. It is really priceless, and it makes my day, every day.’
‘I feel open communication with the parents is essential, so that I am able to build relationships and be able to understand their concerns and wants around their children’s dietary needs. Based on this communication I am able to prepare an appropriate menu, that is based on the children’s dietary interest/needs and seasonal availability of foods.
Our Seasonal Menus
Our in house cook prepares delicious meals for our children every day, using fresh ingredients and seasonal produce. We offer breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack – combining a range of flavours and textures to tantalise your child’s taste buds! Our menus rotate on a 4-week cycle so that every child has the opportunity to try the meals on offer. We follow the munch and move guidelines- Munch & Move is NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of children birth to 5 years by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time, and also the Feed Australia guidelines. Both of these health initiatives allow our centre to make sure your child is getting the right amount of each food group they require each day.
As educators we make sure that all our meal times are fun, enjoyable and social. An opportunity for children to come together as a small community, creating a sense of security and belonging.
Allergies and Dietary Requirements
Kinder Lane is allergy aware. We are nut free and we prohibit food being brought into the service (with the exception of fresh fruit and vegetables), ensuring that all packaged foods comply with our allergy policy. Children with dietary requirements or food intolerances are offered a personalised meal plan including lactose-free, gluten-free and vegetarian options.
Beverages
Water is available for all children throughout the day and offered at every meal time. Milk is offered to children at morning and lunch times as a good source of calcium.
